The purpose of this site is to point you in the right direction and flag up a few considerations when looking for new bedroom furniture. There are plenty of options to consider and you really can create the effect you are looking for if you just take the time to consider your budget, the amount of room in your property, the kind of decor you have or would like to create and finally the practicalities of the way you live and the make up and tastes of you and your family.

You’re much more likely to find a piece of fabric that matches perfectly with your existing interior designs then something that has already been premade.

Again if you’re looking for a girls bed canopy, why not consider taking your daughter with you to a haberdashers and letting her choose the fabrics with you. Let’s face it, as an adult you might want to make a big statement with a four poster bed canopy but your partner may find it all a bit “girly”. Your daughter on the other hand has no such concerns and can be indulged to her hearts content. And be honest you will enjoy it too!

Once you’ve chosen the bed itself it’s time to accessorize and this is where you can really go to town and have a good time. You can choose different elements to go with your bed and mattress pad from pillows, duvet covers, drops pretty patterned sheets and more. And each different set will create a different look so neither you or your children should ever get bored. Each week can offer a new look. Another one of their collections is their Betina range. I just think these designs are a blast and definitely a great choice for children. The multi colored patch work effect canopy bed covers remind me somehow of the circus and is just lots of fun. With all those crazy colors and different pillow designs it would probably best suit a room that has muted colors. There’s only so much the eye can take and I would love to see this bedding in a white or cream room.

Indeed, if anything, the choice for childrens beds seems to be more bewildering than the choice for adults. For a start there seems to be a greater choice of materials to choose from including various wood finishes, steel and iron frames and a range of themed beds. And once you’ve settled on a bed there’s an endless selection of kids canopy bedding to choose from.

A word of warning about the latter types,  some of these themed beds are pretty gaudy and are targeted at the passing whim of your child, whether it be her present infatuation with Dora the Explorer or Winnie the Pooh bedding. Some are over priced for what they are and you risk your child tiring of them pretty quickly. If you buy a pretty but more neutral bed then you have the opportunity to dress it up with different canopy covers and bedding over the years allowing your children’s tastes to evolve with the bed. This way you will have made a long term investment rather than  purchasing a passing fad.

In fact this is a situation where buying one of the kids bed canopies available will achieve exactly the result you’re looking for and delight your kiddies at a fraction of the cost. Here is a good example, this delicious canopy is under $40 and is, in my opinion very tasteful and perfect for a girls room. The butterflies are a really lovely touch, but should your daughter tire of them after a while then simply change to a different cover and you won’t feel like you wasted a lot of money.

Personally if I was going for a ready made kids bed then I would probably plump for this Chanda Youth kid’s twin bed . It’s fairly unisex, suitable for boys or girls but can be dressed up to suit their tastes. It has simple clean lines and I also like the fact that you can buy other matching bedroom furniture to complete the look of the room. This maybe too modern for some peoples taste but that’s what I like about it. Talking of unisex you maybe surprised to learn that there are even some canopies for boys. I’m not sure how I feel about that, I may like modern furniture but I’m fairly traditional when it comes to choices for boys or girls. Nevertheless if you’re look for something for your son then I guess this camouflage bed canopy should do the trick for the young action man in your life. Fairly cheap again at under $40 you won’t have any regrets if he grows out of it fairly quickly and I like the fact it has a self supporting frame that can removed or moved around very easily.

Clearly this is going to be the most expensive option and should not be considered for those buyers who are short of space, because all this furniture will not only take up a lot of space but it will also make a very strong statement in your room and that’s not going to work well if the space starts to look crowded. Give yourself plenty of room so each of the items has a chance to express itself. Bear in mind also that with a bedroom set the style of the set is going to pretty much dictate the style of the room. There’s no point in buying a sleek contemporary canopy bed set and then trying to shoehorn it into an area that has a quaint country feel to it. Everything will clash and look appalling.

So lets start with the Sahara California king sized bed set. At the top end of most buyers budgets this elegant collection consists of the king sized canopy bed, an armoire, dresser with mirror and two bedside tables. In a dark hardwood finish this set has an old world antique feel to it and with its coffee coloring, with hints of cherry will lend a touch of class to your bedroom. This is a perfect example of a product that needs to be placed in the right sized bedroom where it has room to express itself and needs sympathetic interior decor to bring out its best. As you can see from the photo a simple white paint decoration and classy wood flooring works very well. At close to $5000 this is not a purchase for the faint hearted, in fact don’t expect to find too many cheap canopy bed sets.

Next up is this farmhouse bed & dresser set from Pottery Barn. I particularly like the honey colored finish to the wood.This two piece set has been designed in the Shaker style and is simple and stylish. They’ve created the piece to look romantic with or without a canopy cover, and with it’s clean straight lines I think this bed could work well in a number of settings. Again it’s made with tough hardwoods so it won’t fall apart on you. You can see clearly that the bed lends itself to a more casual country type interior decor in complete contrast to the more ornate example above. If you wish you can buy a sheer canopy drape to go with the bed.

This last bedroom set, is a queen sized six piece set, and I think offers a nice compromise between the first two examples.Again we have the dark coffee colored finish but, like the second example, with clean straight lines, perfect for a more modern setting. The accompanying furniture continues the contemporary feel and with such a set you can afford to be a bit more adventurous with the decoration in the rest of the room. Perhaps some strong color on an accent wall would work well. At around $2400 I really like this bedroom set.

Once you’ve found the right bed set for your room don’t forget to choose the right canopy bedding sets to match.

A bed canopy can simply be attached to the ceiling and allowed to drape down over your bed, there are plenty of styles and colors and, of course, one size fits all. Canopies for beds add a touch of elegance to your room and also have a very practical function for many buyers, as a mosquito net.

One very popular purchase from amazon is the Casablanca Oasis. These canopies come in eight different colors are made of 100% polyester and hangs from the ceiling via a wooden hoop. Suitable for any size bed from king size down to a twin and could also work if you wanted to drape them over a four cornered frame. From buyers reviews it’s clear that as well as adding a touch of style they are also very effective against mosquitoes and other insects. You can hand wash it although it is recommended that you dry clean it where possible. At around $30 this is very affordable.

Or for a few more dollars what about the very stylish Savanna Canopy Mosquito Net? The difference here is the hanging mechanism which has a square top rather than a ring. This means that as the mosquito net bed canopy drapes down it takes the rectangular shape of the bed making it more attractive and spacious once you are inside. This product is made in the US again from polyester and boasts 160 holes for each square inch of the netting. Still affordable at around $70.

My personal favorite is this full size four point white bed canopy. Although it will require just a little more work to attach to the ceiling I think you’ll agree that it’s worth it for the overall effect. This beautiful white girls bed canopy will hang, as if by magic, just like a four post framed bed without all the fuss of the frame itself. I particularly like the way the fabric panels over lap one another and make it easy to tie them back if you wish. More suited to a full sized bed it come equipped with ceiling hooks and the corner tabs to hook on to them. At $30 this is a steal.

So three very reasonable options for you, but don’t forget that if you have a fabric sales room nearby then why not take a trip down to see if you can’t find the perfect material with which to make your own canopy. As you can see from the examples above attaching them the fabric to the ceiling is not rocket science. Be creative and make your canopy for bed exactly the way you want it.
