Kids Bed Canopy DIY TipsFinding the right sized canopy bed for a child can be quite a challenge since these types of beds are typically made to the standard size for an adult. Well, there are some manufacturers who have canopy beds for kids. But there are only a very few manufacturers who offer them; like Kidkraft who has the Princess Toddler Cot, and Delta Enterprise who has toddler beds with canopies in different themes.

Aside from finding the right-sized canopy bed for a child, it’s also often hard to find a bed that’s within your budget. So most of the time, parents would rather make a kids bed canopy to add to their child’s existing bed, than to purchase an actual canopy bed. This is because bed canopies can be just suspended over the bed from a hook on the ceiling. Yet still, there are parents who are fans of cost-saving measures, so they would rather make their kids bed canopy themselves.

So if you decide to make your own bed canopy, keep in mind these five things:

1. Make sure you really know or you’ve fully understood how to make a bed canopy before you start on your project. You can read about making canopies in books, magazines, and online.

2. Conceptualize and envision how you want your canopy to look before you go off to shop for the materials for your project. You surely don’t want to end up buying materials that you won’t even use, or come to a point that you realize that you lack a lot of materials!

3. You need to know where you want your canopy installed. Think of the best place on your ceiling that you would your canopy installed; mark it and firmly attach the hook.

4. It’s a good idea to NOT permanently attach the draping to your canopy’s frame. Remember, anything used by kids require regular cleaning and washing. Having a detachable draping can let you easily wash or replace your canopy.

5. It’s also a good idea to have a canopy that can also serve as a mosquito net. You just need a fabric that’s not only nice to look at, but can also act as a mosquito net.
